QUESTIONS FOR ORAL ANSWER

50 Ms Q V Kakoma - to ask the Vice-President when the continuous
registration of voters and voter education programmes will commence.

51 Mr Sikota - to ask the Minister of Labour and Social Security:

(a) what measures has the Government taken in order to curb
casualisation of labour in the hotel and catering industry; and

(b) whether there are any plans to set minimum wages for casual employees at a rate which would encourage employers to opt for permanent employees and, if so, when.

52 Mr Sikota - to ask the Minister of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources:

(a) how many workers in the hotel and catering industry have not been receiving service charges to which they are entitled, in the last two years in Livingstone; and

(b) what reasons were advanced for the problem at (a) above.

53 Mr Sejani - to ask the Vice-President what measures the Government has
taken to ensure that the 2006 Elections are transparent, free and fair.

54 Mr Sejani - to ask the Vice-President how many prisoners of conscience are in Zambia.

55 Mrs I M Wina - to ask the Minister of Health:

(a) which provinces have institutions that train state registered nurses;

(b) when the training programme will be extended to all provinces;

(c) when a national human resource plan to address the critical shortage of health workers in the country will be implemented; and

(d) whether the Government has signed any bilateral agreement on the brain drain of health personnel.

56 Mr Moonde - to ask the Minister of Finance and National Planning what is
the outstanding amount in housing allowance arrears still owed to teachers and other civil servants and when will they be paid.

57 Mr Moonde - to ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs what is the current position regarding the conflicts in the following countries:

(i) Cote d’ivoire;
(ii) Democratic Republic of the Congo; and
(iii) Sudan.

58 Mrs Musokotwane - to ask the Minister of Local Government and Housing:

(a) how many senior chiefs are there in Zambia;

(b) what criteria are used to appoint senior chiefs; and

(c) how many senior chiefs are in Kazungula District and what are their names.

59 Dr Kalumba - to ask the Minister of Education:

(a) when was the last time the Government supplied text books to the following schools in Chienge District:

(i) Ponde High School;
(ii) Mununga Basic School;
(iii) Chipungu Basic School;
(iv) Lambwe Chomba Basic School;
(v) Lambwe Chikwama Basic School; and
(vi) Katele Community School; and

(b) how many diploma and degree holder teachers are there at Ponde High School and in all the basic schools in Chienge District.

60 Mr Sikota - to ask the Minister of Education:

(a) whether there are any plans to upgrade Shungu Basic School in Livingstone into a secondary school and, if so, when; and

(b) whether there are any plans to build more secondary schools in Livingstone in order to accommodate the growing number of pupils.

61 Mr Sikota - to ask the Minister of Education:

(a) how many teachers have been employed by the Government from those that graduated in the years 2002 and 2003 in Livingstone;

(b) how many teachers are on the Government payroll in Livingstone;

(c) how many vacancies of school teachers exist in Livingstone; and

(d) what measures has the Government taken to ensure that those teachers that are not on Government payroll in Livingstone are put on the payroll.

62 Mr Moonde - to ask the Minister of Labour and Social Security what
measures has the Government taken to strengthen the Inspectorate of Factories in view of the recent spate of accidents at places of work.

63 Mr Sejani - to ask the Vice-President what were the findings of the inquiry
announced by the Republican President to investigate the two billion Kwacha allegedly spent on drinks at State House.

64 Mr Moonde - to ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs what measures has the
African Union taken to ensure achievement of economic independence for the continent.
