QUESTIONS FOR ORAL ANSWER

106 Mr Mukanga - to ask the Minister of Home Affairs when Mokambo Police Post will be provided with a utility vehicle since it is a busy border post.

107 Mr Ntundu - to ask the Minister of Finance and National Planning:

(a) what is the minimum period the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) takes to clear a car from Japan imported into Zambia via Durban in South Africa; and

(b) whether the Government monitors the operations of ZRA to ensure that importers are not overcharged on the goods they bring into the country.

108 Mr Lubinda - to ask the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General:

(a) how much was Dr Kenneth David Kaunda awarded as compensation for his detention by the MMD Government; and

(b) which other politicians in Zambia have been awarded compensation for wrongful detention and, if any, how much was awarded and when.

109 Mr Sambwa - to ask the Vice-President when a Cabinet Minister last visited Chief Nabwalya’s area.

110 Mr L J Ngoma - to ask the Minister of Education when funds will be made available for the restructuring of the following basic schools in the Sinda Parliamentary Constituency:

(i) Chimtengo Basic School;
(ii) Chanjoka Basic School;
(iii) Kondwelani Basic School; and
(iv) Mancheula Basic School.

111 Mr Shemena - to ask the Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives:{mospagebreak}

(a) whether the Ministry has plans to introduce regulations which will prohibit millers from converting maize reserved for human consumption into animal feed;

(b) whether there are plans to establish specific food reserves where millers will buy maize meant for animal feed; and

(c) how does the Ministry ensure that food reserved for human consumption is not under-estimated since food for both human and animal consumption is not kept separately.

112 Mr Mukanga - to ask the Minister of Education when teachers at Mutambo School in Mufulira will benefit from the sale of the houses they are currently occupying like their counterparts in Luanshya and Kabwe did.

113 Mr Ntundu - to ask the Vice-President when the Government will release money to repair the grader for Gwembe District Council as promised by the former Deputy Minister for Southern Province at the launch of the District’s restocking programme at which all the Gwembe Chiefs were in attendance.

114 Mr Kapita - to ask the Vice-President when a new and functioning ZESCO generator promised by the Republican President at a political rally in Mwinilunga recently will be installed in Mwinilunga District in order to alleviate the problems being faced by residents.

115 Mr Lubinda - to ask the Minister of Lands:

(a) how many residential plots and small holdings were created and allocated in the area called Chalala, south of Chilenje South in Lusaka;

(b) when were these plots advertised to the public;

(c) how many applications were received for the residential plots and small holdings at (a) above; and

(d) what plans does the Government have for the settlers of Mahopo area where land was taken over by the plots created by the Ministry.

116 Mr Ntundu - to ask the Minister of Education:

(a) what the Government’s policy is on early childhood education;

(b) whether there are plans to introduce Government nursery schools and, if so, when;

(c) whether a syllabus for nursery schools exists; and{mospagebreak}

(d) which Government institutions train nursery school teachers.

117 Mr Mukanga - to ask the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development:

(a) how many contractors have been engaged on the Mopani Acid Plant Project; and

(b) what is the ratio of Zambian to foreign companies on this Project.

118 Mr Ntundu - to ask the Minister of Communications and Transport:

(a) whether the Road Transport and Safety Agency has plans to redesign speed humps on Zambia’s roads to acceptable international standards in order to prevent damage caused to small cars by abnormally high and unregulated speed humps and, if so, when; and

(b) when the Agency will provide road signs on all roads country-wide.

119 Mr Lubinda - to ask the Minister of Works and Supply:

(a) how many companies were contracted to clear the vegetation along the Lusaka/Kafue Road in 2004 and 2005;

(b) what are the names of the companies at (a) above;

(c) how much were they paid per kilometre;

(d) what experience the companies at (b) above have in road maintenance; and

(e) whether tender procedures were followed in awarding the contracts above.
