QUESTIONS FOR ORAL ANSWER

124 Mr Imenda (Lukulu East) - to ask the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development:

(a) whether it is lawful for investors, as soon as they realise that they are not making profits, to close their mines without taking into account the plight of workers and their tax obligations to the Government;

(b) how much was paid to the workers who were laid off in 2008 as a result of the process at (a) above; and

(c) what measures have been taken to avoid a repeat of the same in future.

125 Ms Limata (Luampa) - to ask the Minister of Sport, Youth and Child Development when the Ministry will assist the youth in rural areas acquire sports equipment such as footballs and jerseys.

126 Ms Limata (Luampa) - to ask the Minister of Lands how many women country-wide were allocated land from 2006 to 2008, year by year.

127 Mr Imenda (Lukulu East) - to ask the Minister of Finance and National Planning what the latest position of the Government is on the effects of the global financial crisis resulting from the credit crunch in the USA on the Zambian economy.

128 Mr Chisala (Chilubi) - to ask the Vice President and Minister of Justice when suitable transport will be provided to officers in the Office of the President (Special Division) to enhance their operations.

129 Mr Imenda (Lukulu East) - to ask the Minister of Finance and National Planning how much, in unbudgeted expenditure, was spent on the following in 2008:

(i) increase in civil service wages;
(ii) presidential by-elections;
(iii) power rehabilitation programme; and
(iv) importation of fuel.

130 Mr Imenda (Lukulu East) - to ask the Minister of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources:

(a) how many tourists visited Zambia in 2006, 2007 and 2008;

(b) how much revenue was earned from the tourism sector in the period at (a) above;

(c) to what extent visa fees are helping or encouraging tourists to visit Zambia compared to other countries in the SADC region; and

(d) what factors make Zambia unattractive in tourist arrivals compared to South Africa, Kenya and Botswana.

131 Ms Limata (Luampa) - to ask the Minister of Gender and Women in Development what plans the Ministry has made to ensure that women in need country-wide are mobilised and assisted by the Government with start up capital for income generating projects.

132 Ms Limata (Luampa) - to ask the Vice President and Minister of Justice when the Ministry will recruit more Local Court Magistrates country-wide and in Luampa Parliamentary Constituency, in particular.

QUESTION FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

W1 Mr Imenda (Lukulu East) - to ask the Minister of Local Government and Housing:

(a) how many gazetted chiefs are in Zambia, province by province;

(b) what the criteria for gazetting a chief are; and

(c) why some provinces have more chiefs than others.
