QUESTIONS FOR ORAL ANSWER

862 Mr Malama (Mfuwe) - to ask the Vice-President:

(a) whether the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit has standby skilled personnel such as doctors, pilots, fire fighters and divers to combat any disaster in the country; and

(b) when helicopters will be purchased for the Unit.

863 Mr Sejani (Mapatizya) - to ask the Minister of Education what progress has been made in the appointment of the University of Zambia Vice-Chancellor.

QUESTIONS FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

W11 Dr Njobvu (Milanzi) - to ask the Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives what the crop production levels in the country were from 2001 to 2005, crop by crop and province by province.

W12 Mr Chazangwe (Choma Central) - to ask the Minister of Education how many trained and untrained teachers are employed in the Southern Province, school by school.

W13 Mr Kapeya (Mpika) -  to ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs:

(a) how many officers were recalled from Zambia’s Missions Abroad from 2001 to 2005 and what are their names;

(b) where the officers at (a) above were deployed in Zambia; and

(c) how many officers replaced those at (a) above and what are their names.

W14 Dr Njobvu (Milanzi) - to ask the Minister of Local Government and Housing:

(a) how much money was released for the rehabilitation of feeder roads from 2001 to 2006, province by province and district by district;

(b) which feeder roads were rehabilitated in Katete District, constituency by constituency, in the same period above; and

(c) how much money was spent in rehabilitating the feeder roads at (b) above, constituency by constituency.

W15 Mr Imenda (Lukulu East) - to ask the Minister of Home Affairs:

(a) what measures have been taken to deal with the following challenges:

(i) congestion in prisons throughout the country;
(ii) contracting of various types of diseases by inmates while in prison;
(iii) the need to protect prison officials and other workers from contracting contagious diseases from inmates;
(iv) the integration of former inmates into the community to ensure that they do not commit similar offences; and
(v) the equipping of inmates and ex-convicts with skills and specialised trades to enable them lead positive lives;

(b) what is the rate of ex-convicts committing similar or other offences after they have been re-integrated; and

(c) what are the reasons for drifting back into lawlessness after the ex-convicts have been re-integrated into the communities.

PRESENTATION OF GOVERNMENT BILLS

The Minister of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources

Tourism and Hospitality - Bill to provide for the development of the tourism industry through tourism planning, management and co-ordination; to provide for the functions and powers of the Director of Tourism; to provide for incentives for investors in the tourism industry; to provide for the control and regulation of hotels and the enforcement of reasonable standards of cleanliness, sanitation and service; to provide for the authorisation and licensing of tourism enterprises; to provide for the granting of casino licences; to provide for the constitution of the Hotel Managers Registration Council; to provide for the establishment and administration of the Tourism Development Fund; to repeal the Tourism Act, 1979, the Hotels Act, 1987 and the Casinos Act, 1992; and to provide for matters connected with or incidental to the foregoing.   (N.A.B. 27/2007)

Zambia Tourism Board - Bill to provide for the establishment of the Zambia Tourism Board and define its functions; to provide for the promotion and marketing of Zambia as a tourist destination within and outside Zambia; and to provide for matters connected with or incidental to the foregoing.
