Finance Department
Introduction
The Finance Department is a department under the Office of the Clerk, whose the Controlling Officer, which is tasked with the management of finances for the institution. The department’s functions are governed by the Public Finance Management Act No.1 of 2018 and the Public Finance Management (General) Regulations, 2020.
Structure
The Department is headed by a Director and assisted by three Deputy Directors. The department has seven sections each headed by a Senior Accountants. The Senior Accountants are assisted by Accountants. Below the Accountants, there are Assistant Accountants, Accounts Assistant I and Accounts Assistant II.
Functions
The functions of the Finance department are as prescribed in the Public Finance Management Act, 2018 and the Public Finance Management (General) Regulation, 2020. The functions include;
i. the provision of proper financial management and expenditure of public funds under head 003, National Assembly;
ii. ensuring that systems of financial management and internal controls relating to finances are implemented;
iii. ensuring the effective, efficient and economic and transparent use of financial and other resources; and
iv. budget formulation, execution and financial reporting for Head 003.
