Luapula PS Commissions Community Projects in Milenge district

Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Ms. Prudence Chinama commissioned eight community development projects on 8th April, 2025 in Milenge District, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). 

Ms. Chinama said that the Government is dedicated to improving service delivery and uplifting communities through targeted investments in healthcare, education and economic empowerment.

She noted that four healthcare facilities implemented at a combined cost of K3,657,087.86, demonstrate Government’s commitment to enhance access to medical services and reduce maternal and child mortality in the district.

Ms. Chinama said the facilities which include Chibende Maternity Annex (K938,195.64), Chipundu Maternity Annex (K1,106,945.50), Mulungushi Health Post (K544,054.34) and Flasikwa Health Post and staff housing (K1,067,892.38), are strategically located to serve remote communities, bringing essential maternal and child health services closer to the people and improving overall healthcare outcomes,” she said.

The Permanent Secretary said that in addition to the healthcare facilities, medical equipment worth K1,216,000 was handed over to Milenge District Hospital. She said the equipment includes 70    hospital beds and 70 sets of blankets and bedsheets, aimed at improving patient care, surgical  capacity and general service delivery.

“these investments reflect our Government’s belief that life matters. By bringing quality healthcare closer to our people, we are saving lives and building a healthier and more resilient Zambia,” she stated.

 Ms. Chinama further said that four education infrastructure projects worth K2,881,146.73 have been completed in line with the Government’s Free Education Policy.

She said these include Lwela Boys Dormitory (K744,088.80), a 1x3 classroom block at Milenge Primary School (K966,892.75) and additional classroom blocks at Mununshi (K573,329.00) and Kabange Primary Schools (K596,836.18).

She explained that the new infrastructure will ease overcrowding, replace makeshift classrooms and provide modern learning spaces for hundreds of pupils across the district. She said the developments reiterate the Government’s commitment to ensuring that all children, regardless of their location, have access to quality education in a conducive learning environment.

The Permanent Secretary also announced that empowerment grants totaling K2,478,178.35 had been distributed to 72 beneficiaries, including small entrepreneurs and cooperatives to stimulate local businesses, create jobs and support community based economic growth.

Ms Chinama therefore, urged traditional leaders, community members and stakeholders to take ownership of the projects and ensure their sustainability through responsible use and regular maintenance.
