Fitobaula Health Post Receives New Maternity Annex

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development and Member of Parliament for Chilabombwe Constituency, Hon. Paul Kabuswe has described the newly constructed maternity annex at Fitobaula Health Post in Chitabi Ward, as a symbol of progress and hope for mothers.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony held on Saturday, 1st March, 2025, Hon. Kabuswe said the facility constructed under the 2023 Constituency  Development Fund (CDF), at a total cost of K842,893.17, is designed to offer a clean, safe and supportive environment for expectant mothers.

He stated that the new annex features increased bed capacity, space for antenatal and post-natal care and accommodation for patients with limited mobility, including access to wheelchairs. He added that the improvements will enable healthcare providers to offer more personalised care and create a better working environment for nurses and midwives.

“This maternity annex isn’t just a building, it is a testimony to our commitment to the health and well-being of our expectant mothers and new-borns, who are the foundation of our society. It signifies a brighter and healthier future for generations to come,” he said.

And District Commissioner, Ms Precious Njekwa noted that the previous maternity facility had long been overwhelmed, leading to difficult conditions for both patients and healthcare staff.

She said for too long, the existing maternity unit was stretched beyond its capacity therefore, the new annex represents a joint effort driven by a shared vision to create a modern, comfortable and dignified environment for childbirth.
