SPEAKER MUTTI ATTENDS THE SOUTH AFRICAN LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honourable Ms Nelly B K Mutti, MP, FAPRA, is attending the South African Legislative Sector Oversight Summit in Cape Town, South Africa alongside other National Speakers within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and selected Speakers from the rest of the African Continent. The summit will be held for two days from 30th to 31st January, 2024. The event which is held annually in South Africa has this time around incorporated Speakers of Parliament from other African Countries in order to enhance learning and sharing of experiences towards provision of effective parliamentary oversight. 

The summit will explore innovative methods and strategies to augment sector oversight, with a view to promoting knowledge dissemination and idea interchange from participating Parliaments. The summit will further aim to potentially amalgamate practices on effective oversight drawn from various Parliaments. 

Some of the objectives of the summit are to reflect on the effectiveness of the role of the Legislative Sector in the implementation of their constitutional mandates, explore possible transformational approaches and strategies to enhance the levels of effectiveness in the legislative sector and explore partnerships and opportunities for collaboration in the oversight ecosystem.

The Speaker is accompanied by Hon Princess Kasune, MP, Central Province Minister, Mr Roy Ngulube, Clerk of the National Assembly and other support staff. The Speaker will on Thursday, 1st February, 2024, also attend the SADC PF Extraordinary Executive Committee (Exco) meeting which been called in order for SADC Speakers and SADC Exco Members to deliberate and propose solutions to the leadership challenges facing the Pan African Parliament.
