The Statistics Bill, 2018
Parliamentary Period:
Third Session of the Twelfth Assembly
The objects of this Bill are to—
(a) establish an integrated National Statistical System;
(b) provide for mechanisms for coordination, collection,
management and dissemination of statistics;
(c) promote the use of statistical data and information at individual, institutional, national and international levels;
(d) re-constitute the Central Statistical Office as the Zambia Statistics Agency and define its functions;
(e) establish the Board of the Zambia Statistics Agency and define its functions;
(f) provide for the production and compilation of official statistics in a transparent and impartial manner;
(g) ensure the protection of personal data collected for statistical compilation purposes;
(h) build sustainable capacity for the production and use of statistical data and information for planning purposes;
(i) ensure coordination among statistical agencies;
(j) give effect to the United Nations Fundamental Principles of OfficialStatisticsandtheprinciplesoftheAfrican
Charter on Statistics;
(k) repeal the Census and Statistics Act, 1955, and the
Agricultural StatisticsAct,1964;and
(l) provide for matters connected with, or incidental to, the
foregoing.
