NAZ receives support from Airtel towards the hosting of the 134th IPU Assembly

The National Assembly of Zambia has received support to the tune of Six Hundred, Thirty Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventeen Kwacha (K 639, 217) from Airtel Networks PLC towards the hosting of the 134th Inter-Parliamentary (IPU) Assembly in Lusaka. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations was held at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel on Wednesday, 3rd February, 2016.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the MoU,  Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia, Mrs Doris K K Mwinga, stated that Airtel’s support to the National Assembly would be in form of, among other things; advertising space on all digital billboards where Airtel advertises its products throughout Zambia for a period of thirty days; advertising space for the 134th IPU Assembly on social media, radio and television.
Mrs. Mwinga added that the support would also allow the National Assembly to send promotional short messages (SMS) to all Airtel subscribers informing them of the 134th IPU Assembly.
And Speaking when he handed over the cheque of Six Hundred Thirty Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventeen Kwacha (K 639, 217), Airtel Networks Managing Director, Mr Peter Correia said they were glad as Airtel Networks PLC to partner with the National Assembly and to be part of the upcoming 134th IPU Assembly.
He also stated that the 134th IPU Assembly was a good opportunity for Zambia to showcase its investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture and tourism.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is the international organization of Parliaments which was established in 1889. The Union is the focal point for world-wide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and co-operation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.
The IPU currently has 167 Member Parliaments and 10 Associate Member Parliaments. The hosting of IPU Assemblies is rotational among Member Parliaments and thus, the National Assembly of Zambia will be hosting the 134th Assembly from 19th to 23rd March, 2016. The 134th IPU Assembly is expected to attract about One Thousand, Six Hundred (1600) delegates.
