Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Nelly B K Mutti, has commended the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its continued role in promoting ethical values and contributing to national development.

She noted that the National Assembly’s mandate goes beyond legislation and oversight to include fostering moral and spiritual growth among Members of Parliament and staff. Speaker Mutti highlighted key initiatives such as the Parliamentary Christian Caucus, launched in November 2023, the National Prayer Breakfast, and interdenominational fellowship meetings, all aimed at strengthening spiritual reflection within the institution.

The Speaker made these remarks when Northern Zambia Union Conference Executive Secretary, Chifumbe Kapenya, together with a delegation of Public Affairs directors, paid a courtesy call at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

She further acknowledged the Church’s contributions to education, healthcare, and community outreach, emphasizing that these efforts align with Zambia’s national values of integrity, accountability, and service.

Pastor Kapenya said the visit also provided an opportunity for the Church to commend the National Assembly for upholding religious freedoms that allow individuals and institutions to practice their faith without restriction, rights not guaranteed in many parts of the world. He added that the Church remains committed to implementing community-based programs focused on gender-based violence prevention, youth engagement, and health promotion.

Also speaking during the meeting, Dr Pako Mokgwane, Director of Public Affairs for the Southern African-Indian Ocean Division, emphasized the importance of collaboration between faith institutions and government in addressing societal challenges such as gender-based violence, youth substance abuse, and community development. He also praised Zambia’s constitutional protection of freedom of worship as a vital pillar for faith communities.

Both parties expressed a shared commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at improving citizens’ well-being, promoting moral leadership, and upholding democratic principles in Zambia.
