Ms. Evaline Kibuchi urges gender-responsive TB interventions

Ms. Evaline Kibuchi, Africa Regional Director for the Global Tuberculosis Caucus, has called for gender-responsive policies and increased financing to accelerate the End TB campaign in Africa.

Speaking during her presentation titled “Organising Gendered Interventions to Accelerate the End TB Campaign in Africa: Lessons from the LIGHT Consortium” at the Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health Forum on 26th February, 2026, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Kenneth Kaunda Wing, Ms. Kibuchi said gender inequalities continue to limit access to TB diagnosis and treatment, especially among women.

She disclosed that evidence from the LIGHT Consortium and research presented by Dr. Brenda Mungai of the African Institute for Development Policy shows that community-driven and data-based interventions significantly improve TB outcomes.

She has urged parliaments to remove structural barriers and fund inclusive TB programmes.
