The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Malungo A Chisangano, MP, has urged all Parliamentarians to uphold and strengthen Parliamentary democracy by enhancing accountability and nurturing a culture of discipline, diligence, and exemplary service. She made the call during the Annual Parliamentarians Awards Ceremony held on Wednesday, 3rd December, 2025, at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka.
Hon. Chisangano emphasized that the responsibilities entrusted to Members of Parliament, ranging from legislation and oversight to representation and constituency development demand unwavering dedication, sacrifice, and integrity.
“It is therefore fitting that we pause each year to honour those who have gone above and beyond in fulfilling these responsibilities,” she said.
She noted that this year’s awards reflected the diverse and dynamic contributions of Members across gender, age, and regional backgrounds. She further highlighted the critical role played by MPs in improving citizens’ lives through effective use of the Constituency Development Fund, evidence-based debates, active participation in Committee work, and adherence to the rules and decorum of the House.
Speaking at the same event, Deputy Clerk–Procedure, Mr. Stephen Kawimbe, underscored that the award process was conducted with transparency, integrity, and broad participation, as Members cast their votes diligently. He encouraged MPs to view the ceremony not only as a moment to recognize achievement but also as an opportunity to celebrate commitment, perseverance, and the collective effort that propels the institution forward.
