ZAMBIA-FINLAND PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP MEETS FINLAND'S DEPUTY MAYOR OF TAMPERE

The Zambia-Finland Parliamentary Friendship Group (ZFPFG) met with Ambassador of Finland to Zambia, H.E. Ms. Saana Halinen and Finland's Deputy Mayor of Tampere, Mr. Ilkka Porttikivi, on Tuesday, 21st November 2024, at Parliament Buildings to explore areas for further collaboration and strengthen ties.

Deputy Mayor of Tampere, Mr. Ilkka Porttikivi, said Tampere has successfully implemented innovative approaches in manufacturing, environmental protection, circular economy and entrepreneurship. He noted that the city has made significant strides in recycling waste materials and plastics into valuable resources, adding that this is something that Zambia could also greatly benefit from.

Mr. Porttikivi also highlighted Finland's advancements in sustainable practices within the mining sector and other industries, saying these could be beneficial for Zambia.

And Chairperson of the ZFPFG, Honourable Imanga Wamunyima, said he was optimistic that the discussions would not just end there but foster innovations for Zambia's development. He expressed hope that through the Zambia Finland Friendship Group, technology and machinery used in recycling waste into bio-energy could be brought to Zambia to advance the country's renewable energy initiatives and waste management systems.
