NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PRESS STATEMENT

Windhoek, Namibia, July 30th 2024 - Namibia's Parliament has commended Zambia for the manner it is implementing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programme.

Chairperson of the National Council, which the second House of Namibia's bicameral Parliament, Honourable, Lukas Sinimbo Muha said Namibia is exploring the possibility of entering into a cooperation agreement with the Parliament of Zambia to learn more about how the country is implementing the Constituency Development Fund.

Speaking when he received Zambia's Parliamentary Committee on Privileges and Absences led by Deputy Speaker, Honourable Malungo Chisangano, and Hon. Muha said lessons from the implementation of the CDF law in Zambia will be valuable to Namibia as the country plans to enact its own Constituency Development Fund Law.

Honourable Muha who described the visit as a milestone in the relationship between Namibia and Zambia, said it provided an opportunity for both Parliaments to learn from each other's successes and challenges in parliamentary governance.

And Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Malungo Chisangano, acknowledged the deep-rooted bilateral relations between Zambia\a and Namibia, and said that the warm bilateral relations have translated into strong parliamentary collaborations.

Honourable Chisangano is leading the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges and Absences on a benchmarking visit with the Parliament of Namibia on issues relating to Members' privileges and discipline. She is accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Hon. Princes Kasune, Government Chief Whip, Hon. Stafford Mulusa, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Robert Chabinga and Roan Member of Parliament, Hon. Joel Chibuye among others.
