Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP, FAPRA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), an organ of the Global Council of Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), and the National Assembly of Zambia, aimed at fostering cooperation in promoting tolerance and peace. Under the MoU, the parties will establish permanent relations in building tolerance and peace.
Speaker Mutti signed the MoU by the margins of the ongoing COP28 on Wednesday, 6th December, 2023, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting at COP28, during which she chaired, on behalf of the IPU President, Dr Tulia Ackson, the High Level Panel of Speakers of Parliament focused on strides made by Parliaments in the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Speaker Mutti also participated in a round table discussion on how Women and Young MPs can make a difference in climate change governance, and créate partnerships for change.
The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace is an international organisation whose objectives include promoting the value of tolerance and the culture of peace; fight against discrimination, religious sectarianism, ethnocentrism, and sectarian intolerance among human beings; and develop the norms of international law to strengthen the principles of tolerance to achieve peace.
