The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suhulu Hassan, says that the Zambian Parliamentarians have a key role to play in fostering bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaking when she addressed the Zambia Parliament on October 25th, 2023, President Hassan said that the good intents of the two governments requires the solid backing of Parliamentarians if they are to bring about the intended outcomes.  

President Hassan, who becomes the first female Head of State to address to the National Assembly of Zambia underscored the importance of economic solidarity. “I have therefore come to Zambia to cement our intention to work together with Zambia for a brighter future. And if I can sum up my main message on this visit, it would be cementing economic solidarity,” President Hassan said.

President Hassan further highlighted a range of strategies aimed at bolstering trade relations, including the extension of visa-free entry provisions and the forthcoming establishment of a new border crossing point. In her address, the President urged members of the Zambian National Assembly to unite in support of collaborative projects, facilitate increased trade and investment, and foster stronger bilateral relations between Tanzania and Zambia. She expressed her unwavering commitment to continued cooperation with President Hakainde Hichilema and the Zambian government, emphasizing the mutual benefits that would result from this partnership.

President Hassan’s speech emphasized the necessity of economic solidarity and outlined measures to streamline cross-border operations. She further called on Parliamentarians to champion cooperative projects, promote expanded trade and investment, and cultivate deeper ties between the two countries signals a promising future for the bilateral relationship.

She assured the House of her government’s commitment to continue playing its role in fostering and facilitating regional prosperity, peace and stability.
