11 Mps Garner Awards For Outstanding Parliamentarians

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Right Honourable Nelly B.K Mutti, MP, FAPRA, awarded eleven Members of Parliament for their exceptional performance in Parliament and Constituency work, on Thursday, 14thSeptember, 2023 at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka. 

She stated that the awards, bestowed by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), aim to acknowledge the MPs' efforts in maintaining the dignity of the House, engaging in respectful discussions and debates, and adhering to the values and principles of the National Assembly of Zambia.

Speaking at the same event, Vice President One of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zambia Branch, Dr Christopher Kalila, MP, commended Madam Speaker for initiating this venture, encouraging all MPs to continue working diligently both in Parliament and their constituencies.

Additionally, Mr Harry S Kamboni, Vice President One of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Zambia National Group, expressed support for the introduction of these annual awards and pledged IPU's continuing assistance in ensuring the sustainability of the initiative

Deputy Clerk Corporate Affairs, Mr Stephen Kawimbe, assured the MPs that the staff of the National Assembly of Zambia would continue to provide them with necessary and effective support to foster outstanding performances.

Mr Mubika Anakoka, who received the Robinson Nabulyato Overall Best MP Award of the Year, expressed gratitude on behalf of the other recipients for the National Assembly of Zambia's initiative to recognize the work of MPs. He encouraged all MPs to be inspired by the event and give their best efforts in their work.

The awards are named after former Speakers Mr. Robinson Nabulyato and Mr. Wesley Nyirenda, as well as the current Speaker, the Right Honourable Nelly B.K Mutti, MP, FAPRA, who is the first female to hold the prestigious position in the National Assembly of Zambia.

The Robinson Nabulyato Overall Best MP Award was given to Mr Mubika Anakoka, with the First Runner Up being Mr Elliot Kamondo and the Second Runner Up being Mr Fred Chaatila and Mr Yoram Mtayachalo. The Wesley Nyirenda Outstanding Youth Award was presented to Mr Twaambo Mutinta, with the First Runner Up being Ms Sibeso Sefulo and the Second Runner Up being Mr Sipho Hlazo and Mr Imanga Wamunyima. The Nelly Mutti Outstanding Woman MP Overall Award was given to Ms Jacqueline Sabao, with the First Runner Up being Ms Chrizoster Halwiindi Phiri and the Second Runner Up being Ms Princess Kasune.
