ZAMBIAN PARLIAMENT INDEBTED TO CANADA FOR IT’S SUPPORT

Speaker of the National Assembly the Rt Hon Ms. Nelly B K Mutti, says the Zambian Parliament is indebted to Canada for the support received on the implementation of the Parliamentary Reforms Programme.

Speaking when she met the Head of Office, Counsellor and Consul at the Office of the High Commission of Canada, Ms Jennifer Hill, on Tuesday 24th January, 2023 at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka, Hon Mutti stated that the Reform programme was to realign the functions of Parliament with demands of plural politics.

She added that the National Assembly of Zambia and a consortium of co-operating partners including Canada signed a Statement of Intent on the Parliamentary Reform Project in November, 2002. The statement provided basket funding which yielded positive results and the institution reaped optimal benefits from the initiatives through the establishment of Constituency Offices in all the 156 constituencies; Parliament TV and Radio.

The Head of Office, Counsellor and Consul at the Office of the High Commission of Canada, Ms Jennifer Hill resonated on the importance of Canada’s continued support to the Zambian Parliament to enhance collaboration on various Parliamentary issues. She added that Canada like many other countries have taken keen notice of Zambia and has expressed more interest in enhancing collaboration that bring stability to the country.

Other issues discussed bordered on Legislative agenda, debt process, political interaction on the bills and gender equality.
