National Assembly of Zambia Constituency Offices Can act as Research Satellites – Says Mrs Cecilia Sikatele-Mambwe

The Research Department in collaboration with the Parliamentary Reform Programme (PRP) held a virtual training workshop in basic parliamentary research for Constituency Office staff, from Monday, 19th to Tuesday, 20th December, 2022. The training workshop was officially opened by Mrs Cecilia Sikatele-Mambwe, Deputy Clerk (Procedure) of the National Assembly of Zambia. The aim of the workshop was among others, to enhance research, data collection and analysis skills for Constituency Office staff; as well as strengthen collaboration between the Research Department and Constituency Offices. The workshop was attended by fifty-two (52) Professional Assistants from across the country and facilitated by staff from the Research and PRP Departments.

In her opening remarks, the Deputy Clerk (Procedure) stated that in an effort to enhance the National Assembly of Zambia’s oversight role, Constituency Offices were identified as research satellites because of their strategic position and proximity to sources of primary information at constituency level. In order to ensure that the Constituency fulfilled this role,  Mrs Mambwe said that there was need to build the capacity of the staff in Constituency Offices, especially that of Professional Assistants.
