K40,000 CDF grant transforms Kabele Women’s Club in Lumezi District

Kabele Women’s Club in Lumezi District is undergoing transformation following a K40,000 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grant, which has enabled 10 women from Mkasanga Village to establish a tailoring business aimed at improving their livelihoods and addressing the shortage of sewing services in the area.

The women applied for the grant after identifying the lack of tailors in Mkasanga and neighbouring villages, a situation that had forced residents to travel to other districts to access such services.

Club treasurer, Ms. Chisenga Phiri, said the initiative has brought relief to communities in Mkasanga and nearby Chasera in Chibande Ward, where access to tailoring services had remained a challenge.

“This project has given hope not only to our members but also to the wider community that has struggled to access tailoring services,” Ms Phiri said.

Ms. Phiri said the group intends to offer tailoring services and production of school uniforms and other clothing within the village and surrounding areas.

“We are grateful to the Government and President Hakainde Hichilema for this life-changing CDF support, which we believe will transform our lives and the community within a year,” she said.

The club has since procured four manual sewing machines and cotton, while part of the remaining funds will be used to purchase fabric to facilitate the official commencement of the business.
