On 23rd January, 2009, Mr Speaker announced to the House that it had come to his attention that some Hon Members had developed the tendency of divulging privileged and confidential information to the media. He said that, in the recent past, he had received letters, petitions and other forms of documents on particular matters for his attention. To his dismay, the same information had been reported or reproduced, verbatim, in the print and electronic media. He informed the House that information submitted to his office, a Committee of the House, or office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, constituted privileged and confidential information. Therefore, it was not to be made available to the media without authority of the House.
