On Friday July 3rd 2009, the National Assembly joined the rest of the country in the commemoration of the 2009 National Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) day which fell on the 30th of June, under the theme ‘Family First-Men Take Your Family for Counselling and Testing.’ The event took place in the Amphi-theatre at Parliament Buildings and the Guest of Honour was the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Doris Katai K Mwinga.
The National Assembly, which adjourned sine die on Friday 27th March 2009, will reconvene for the Mid-year Meeting on Tuesday 14th July, 2009 at 1430 hours. All is set for yet another busy and interesting meeting of the august House and all Members of Parliament are required to be in Lusaka by Monday, 13th July 2009.
A five-member Parliamentary Delegation from the United Republic of Tanzania, on Sunday, June 28, 2009, arrived in the country for a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Goodwill Mission to the Parliament of Zambia. Mrs Beatrice Shellukindo, MP, who is Vice President of the CPA Tanzania Branch, led the Delegation. Other members of the delegation were Mr. Mohammed Sanya, MP, Ms Lucy Owenya, MP and Mr. Malangu, Secretary to the delegation.
Chairperson of the Nippon Foundation Mr. Yohei Sasakawa has urged Parliamentarians to take an interest in the fight against Leprosy and that they should also know that it is a curable and non-discriminatory disease. He said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs. Doris Mwinga, at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday 1st July 2009.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Amusaa K Mwanamwambwa, MP, appealed to Honourable Members of Parliament to ensure that issues relating to HIV/AIDS became part of their Constituency agenda. The Hon Mr. Speaker made this appeal at the launch of the Strategic Plan of the Coalition of African Parliamentarians Against HIV and AIDS (CAPAH), Zambia Chapter at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, 25th June, 2009.
